Winter Winds Is Scorching The Competition In Inaugural Season

By Staff Report-

Having begun rehearsals in November, the newly formed Warsaw Winter Winds group is “scorching” the competition in its inaugural season.

Led by Director Kyle Travis and composed of 33 wind players, this group is burning up the competition, stated a press release from Warsaw Community Schools. Performing at Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) events weekly which began Feb. 13, “this group has shown improvement each week.”

This year’s show is titled “Scorched” and is a musical adventure where the group imagines the earth is engulfed in flames. Performing on a flame-covered tarp in the gymnasium, these students lead the audience on a “blazing musical journey,” stated the release. Utilizing their musical talents, this group is judged on its musicality, visual performance, overall repertoire and communication effectiveness.

Travis, in his fourth year at Warsaw Community High School, is assisted by Joseph Peloza, Grace Robison and Joshua Dawes. He was excited to bring this new performing opportunity to the band program for 2021. The group will compete on Saturday at Pendleton Heights High School for the IPA Winds Prelims. State Finals will be held on March 20 at Center Grove High School. All competition events are able to be livestreamed by visiting www.IndianaPercussion.org search for schedule, date, location and tickets.

Join WCS for a performance at the WCHS Tiger’s Den on March 31 at 7 p.m. COVID-19 safety precautions will be in effect and masks will be required. This performance will showcase all Warsaw bands at the high school.
