Presidential Scholarship Days, an annual competition for high-achieving high school seniors, awards more than $2.5 million in scholarships. Presidential Scholarship Days are one facet of the robust financial aid program at Grace College which provides institutional financial aid to 99% of its students, according to a news release from Grace College.
Dr. Mark Pohl, associate vice president of enrollment management and financial aid, said Presidential Scholarship Days were a resounding success this year.
“Grace has received a record-high number of enrollment deposits for fall 2021 and these scholars are a big part of it. More than half of the scholars have already submitted their enrollment deposit and intend to enroll at Grace College this fall,” said Pohl.
For the first time in school history, the scholarship days transpired over five different Fridays in order to avoid large gatherings. As a result, the 2021 competition was the largest of all time, welcoming 210 student scholars to Grace’s campus. Luna and Murphy were selected as the top award-winners overall, stated the release.
“I feel honored, grateful and joyful for this blessing,” said Murphy. “But most of all, I feel so at peace because I have seen God’s mighty hand working in my story, and His faithfulness never fails to amaze me. I am so excited for my time at Grace.”
Luna also expressed his gratitude.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank God and Grace College for giving me this opportunity to help continue my education. I also would like to thank my family, friends and community for pushing me to be the best possible person that I can be," he said.
Presidential Scholarship Days are for students who meet two or more of the following criteria: 3.7 GPA, top 25% class rank and 1230 SAT or 26 ACT. Scholarships range from $15,000 per year to full-tuition, and all attendees receive a minimum of $1,000 per year. In all, more than $2.5 million in scholarships were awarded.
This year’s competing scholars came from 15 states and five countries. Their average high school GPA was 4.03.
The event schedule kicked off with an optional lunch and campus tour. The scholars then attended a student life panel before participating in 20-minute interviews with Grace College professors. The day continued with academic group meetings and wrapped up with a formal dinner where guests heard from Grace College President Dr. Bill Katip.
