Woodies Supermarket Educational Scholarship Recipients Are Announced

Each year, Warsaw Community High School and college students who graduated from WCS are given the opportunity to apply for the woodies supermarket scholarship fund.  this year, 12 high school and 15 college students were granted scholarships totaling $25,000.00 to pursue their academic careers.

Woodies Supermarket scholarship fund was founded in 1978 by Soodie and Devota Schramm, according to a provided news release. Woodie was a businessman in Warsaw and Bremen and was the founder of Woodies Supermarkets. His wife, Devota, was a teacher at Atwood Elementary.  The Schramms chose to share the rewards of their hard work and dedication to give young people an opportunity to pursue higher education.

The scholarship fund has contributed approximately $940,000.00 to 1,505 Warsaw graduates since the fund’s inception in 1978.  Sonya Hoskins, Woodie and Devota’s daughter, leads the Woodies Supermarket educational scholarship committee.

This fund is locally managed by the Warsaw branch of 1st Source Bank’s wealth advisory services.  For additional information, contact Tom Tearney at 574-268-1207.

2021 high school recipients are: Madeline Bowell, Kevin Fouts, Audrey Grimm, Thanelie Helser, Jacob Kissling, Nathaniel Lechlitner, Samuel Lechlitner, Emma Marsh, Julian Medina, Michael Ray, Elizabeth Stone, Mason Whitaker.

2021 college recipients are: Anthony Bass, Austin Bowell, Miriam Hagg, Amslie Howett, Nolan Knight, Graham Landwerlen, Natalie Moore, Chloe Peyton, Isabel Ray, Reagan Rowland, Carter Schuh, Jack Stewart, Murphy Stewart, Delaney Wihebrink, Colton Wottring.
