SILVER LAKE – The town of Silver Lake is seeking a grant to demolish the old elementary school building.

The Town Council approved Wednesday to apply for an Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) grant to help cover the costs of the demolition.

Also Wednesday, the Council heard from Brett Birch, with the Silver Lake Conservation Foundation, who requested a financial contribution from the town to help perform a diagnostic study of the lake. The last test was done in 2001, and the Council requested a more formal presentation of information if Birch wants funding.

Also approved Wednesday was the purchase of new gear for the fire department from local busines Donley for a cost of $5,874.

The next Silver Lake Town Council meeting is 7 p.m. July 14 at Town Hall.
