The Wallen Memorial Scholarships are awarded in honor and memory of Ernie Lee Wallen, a 1967 graduate of Pierceton High School. After graduation Ernie entered the United States Army, and served as an infantryman with the 3rd Platoon, Company C, 2d Battalion of the 22nd Infantry (“the Triple Deuce”), 25th Infantry Division. Ernie was killed in action on August 30, 1969 in the Bo Loi Woods, Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam. He was 20 years old.  The greatest tragedy of war is the sacrifice of human life.
