WINONA LAKE — Grace College will offer the Silver Scholars Program this fall semester, which allows adults 55 and older to audit approved on-campus classes at a reduced rate of $25 per class.

The courses cover a variety of topics — including nutrition, literature, art, Bible and more. Each class is eight weeks long.

“We are proponents of the idea that growth and learning can occur at any age,” said Dr. Dennis Gaerte, Silver Scholars coordinator. “The Silver Scholars program is not only a means to enrich the lives of older folks in our community but also the lives of our students.”

An open house will be held in the Registrar’s Office in Indiana Hall on Grace College’s campus Aug. 10 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. The event will allow students to register for classes, order books and pick up a parking pass. Gaerte will be there to answer questions. Additionally, Grace College President Dr. Bill Katip and Executive Director of Development Steve Gerber will be there to welcome students.

“When our Silver Scholars and traditional undergraduate students learn side by side and share meaningful discourse in the classroom — there’s no telling what may come of those relationships. We see this program as an opportunity to advance our institutional mission of applying biblical values in strengthening character, sharpening competence and preparing for service,” said Katip.
