FMSC Warsaw MobilePack Returns This Week

This Wednesday and Thursday, Warsaw MobilePack returns to host and participate in FMSC’s official relaunch of community MobilePack events. The goal will be to pack another 272,000 meals.
The first year of the Warsaw MobilePack was in 2014, with subsequent events taking place in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
“This (week’s MobilePack) was the event planned for October 2020, but due to COVID it was canceled. All Feed My Starving Children operations were temporary shut down and they went to machine packing to sustain meal packing for the worldwide need,” said Megan Stone, Warsaw MobilePack chair of the steering committee.
FMSC began packing at its multiple permanent sites. With FMSC bringing back the community MobilePacks in June in trial runs, Warsaw’s was invited to take part in the relaunch program as a pilot program.
“Warsaw will be the largest MobilePack event of their relaunch,” Stone said.
The 2021 MobilePack will be at Lincoln Elementary School 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1:45 to 3:45 p.m., 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. Thursday volunteer slots are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1:45 to 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a clean-up session following.
“We’re going to have approximately 2,000 volunteers, which is certainly less than we had in the past,” Stone said, noting that the highest number of volunteers was around 5,000. “... Warsaw Community Schools has been helpful in hosting the event.”
In the past, the Warsaw MobilePack has packed over 1 million meals every year. Stone said they were anticipating to pack 272,000 meals this week.
“It’s all part of the relaunch so they’re piloting the packing and will be more vigilant with the details,” Stone said.
There are about 100 volunteer spots open as of Monday. Stone said people are signing up and encouraged to sign up in groups of 10 so people working together are comfortable with each other. That includes church, business and family groups of 10.
To volunteer, log into warsawmobilepack.com. Click on the “volunteer” button and choose an open shift. Donations also can be made at the same website.
“We recommend groups of 10 to maximize the event,” Stone said. “Ages 5 and up are invited to participate.”
The event will follow COVID guidelines. Volunteers can come with their own mask, but masks also will be available. No jewelry should be worn, but closed-toe shoes should. Hair nets will be required and provided for everyone.
“This is the fifth event. We were disappointed when we couldn’t do it in October, but we’re happy to pack meals to fight hunger around the world,” Stone said.
The meals – which include rice, soy, vitamins and veggies – are shipped to FMSC partners in 70 countries around the world. Previous Warsaw community meals were shipped to FMSC partners in Uganda, Haiti, Malawi, Mexico, Philippines, Honduras, Malawi and Guyana and served children in critical need of starvation.
