Sherman & Lin’s Discount Grocery To Close Tuesday

After being in the Warsaw area for about 40 years, Sherman & Lin’s Discount Grocery will close Tuesday.

Store owner Kelly Nichols said the main reason the grocery store, located at 1900 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, is closing is due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nichols said when the pandemic hit, product was scarce and the store had a hard time getting product. Prices also skyrocketed for product and Nichols said Sherman & Lin’s “couldn’t get away” with raising their prices.

Currently, Sherman & Lin’s is having a 70% off sale for its inventory. Nichols said if inventory isn’t sold by the end of Tuesday, they will find places to donate the items to, having worked with such places as Our Father’s House in the past.

The grocery store currently has one employee, Nichols, although she said the store had as much as eight employees at one time.

Nichols said her focus will be on Bargain Barn Garden Center she is also associated with on Winona Avenue, as well as some landscaping work her family does and branching off and building on that business. The garden center has as many as eight employees during the spring.

While the grocery store is closing, the garden center will not be closing. However, the garden center will close for a couple weeks and will reopen Aug. 8.

Nichols said the grocery story has a lot of loyal customers that are sad to see it go.

The one thing Nichols said the garden center and grocery store prided themselves on is their customer service. She noted the grocery store made deliveries during the pandemic.

She said she wished the store could stay open, but it’s not an option, noting an appreciation if people would stop by and shop by Tuesday.
