It’s been a long time since I’ve written to this newspaper, but now, I’m back at it.

A year ago, Christian author, speaker and Bible prophecy expert Dr. Jack Van Impe passed away. I enjoyed listening to his television program “Jack Van Impe Presents.” One of several things he spoke of in regard to “end-time” events was how the Bible said (concerning the “last days”) that “men would not repent of their sorceries.”

The Greek word of “sorcery” is “formakia,” where we get our modern day word “pharmacist.”

That prophecy correctly speaks of how people (all across the world) would, in these days preceding the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, would be indulging in the abuse and excessive misuse of drugs.

For decades, we have seen the scourge of abuse of illegal drugs. In the past several years, prescription drugs have taken the lives of a lot of people, of various age groups.

Especially so-called “pain-killers.”

I had a prescription for one of those newer so-called “pain-relievers.” Trust me, you are better off just going to bed, laying down and seeking a few hours sleep! Perhaps taking a couple of Tylenol beforehand.

There have been news stories of the deaths of a few high-profile people who died after taking too many of these drugs. Foolishness.

God has all of us here for a reason, although I have no idea what.

However, there is the son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to this world in the womb of a virgin (by the power of the Holy?Ghost, or the Holy Spirit if you prefer). He would grow up to be a man, was baptized in the River Jordan and upon rising out of the water, the Holy Spirit came down from Heaven like a dove and landed upon Him. Christ then proceeded to spend the next 3-1/2 years preaching the “good news” of forgiveness of sins and enteral life to all who would believe on His name, and His eventual sacrifice upon the cross. He died, was layed in a borrowed tomb, then upon the third day, as foretold in prophecies. He rose from death unto life to offer forgiveness to all believers!
