John Paul Oldfather, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, in Diamondhead, Miss.

John was born Nov. 29, 1939, in North Manchester to Paul E. Oldfather and Genieve I. Christner Oldfather.

He attended Etna Green High School, where he was on the 1957 Times-Union Honor basketball team. He graduated in 1957.

He attended Manchester College in 1957-1958 before joining the U.S. Navy in 1958. He served 20 years in Naval Intelligence before retiring in 1978 at the rank of senior chief petty officer.

He married Anne Aultman Dec. 1, 1962. They have two children: John T. “JT” Oldfather (wife Tracy), Bay St. Louis, Miss.; and John Lee Oldfather (wife Susan), Belle Vista, Ariz.

He married Roberta Flinn in Nov. 28, 1994. She passed in 2006.

Survivors include sisters, Patricia (Al) Sharkey, Bourbon; Betty Lichtenwalter, Warsaw; and brother, Steve (Garnet) Oldfather, Warsaw. He had three grandchildren.

No services were planned. His body was cremated and ashes spread at sea.
