Steven S. “Steve” Smale, 71, of Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on June 8, 1949, in Bremen, to Charles Leroy and Paula Elaine Troutwine Smale.

He grew up in Edwardsburg, Mich.; graduated in 1968 from Edwardsburg High School; and was a United States Navy veteran. He retired from the Warsaw postal service and formerly worked at the Elkhart Post Office. He lived in Elkhart for several years before moving to Warsaw.

He was a member of the American Legion in Warsaw.

He is survived by two sons: Steven “Scott” (Roni) Smale Jr., of Elkhart; and Adam Smale, of Goshen; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Paula Dailey, of Elkhart; two sisters: Shelley (Frank) McCarthy, of Aptos, Calif.; and Connie Kujawa, of Vandalia, Mich.; three brothers: Fred Smale, of Fort Collins, Colo; Tim (Darlyn) Smale, of Elkhart; and Greg (Rita) Smale, of Citra, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Larry South.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
