Amanda Hare, of A K Hare Company, 119 N. Main St., said she wanted to get a sign for the parking lot to help with the issue. Hare said she used to have a sign at her business used for parking. The sign was blown away by wind and destroyed.
Hare did not specify what type of sign she had up.
She said she has a warranty deed on her property which requires her to share parking with the business south of her for approximately the first 80 feet or so, she believed.
Hare said she wants to be friendly with her neighbors, but she has 80-year-old customers that aren’t finding parking spaces, and she’s losing business.
Hare said she didn’t know if getting a sign would fix the issue or not.
She thought she would approach the Council about it, but was told by Town Marshal Greg Church that Matthew Sandy, assistant planner and floodplain administrator for Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission, might have more information. Sandy attended the meeting on a different issue.
Sandy said Hare would need a permit and sign permits would go through Area Plan Commission. Getting a permit is pretty simple and can be done online, Sandy said. Sandy gave Hare his card and said he’d answer any questions she had.
In other business, the Council approved the annual flood program community rating recertification with Kosciusko County Area Plan.
Kosciusko County joined and has participated in the Nation Flood Insurance Program in order to make flood insurance available to all those in the community since 1987. By participating, Kosciusko County has adopted and enforces the flood control ordinance. Those properties located within a special flood hazard area as determined by the Kosciusko County Flood Control and the Flood Insurance Rate Maps are subject to the regulations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Indiana Division of Natural Resources and the Kosciusko County Flood Control Ordinance, according to the county website.
Sandy said the flood program allows people who carry flood insurance additional discounts. Area Plan does work including maintaining maps and public records of where the floodplain is.
Area Plan needs the town to certify annually Area Plan is continuing to do their job.
In other business, the Council approved a salary ordinance amendment. Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce said she didn’t take into account a town employee when the Council approved a 3% raise ordinance in December. The amendment allows the town to give the employee the raise, effective Jan. 2.
