MILFORD – The Milford Town Council approved the annual flood program community rating recertification with Kosciusko County Area Plan Monday.

“We administer the natural flood insurance for the town,” said Matthew Sandy, assistant planner and floodplain administrator for Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission. “That ultimately, for any of those owners in the flood zone, gets them a discounted rate off their flood insurance.”

Milford doesn’t have any work on their end when it comes to it. Sandy said Area Plan’s job includes keeping the flood maps up to date and notification to anyone on the program.

“Each year, we have to recertify that we’re still doing what we said we were,” Sandy said. He said the paperwork he sent to Clerk-Treasurer Tricia Gall, who made copies for the council members, details what Area Plan does for the towns behind the scenes.

Sandy said Milford makes things easy as it doesn’t have any homes within the flood zone.

The Council also:

• Elected officers for 2021. Doug Ruch and Kenneth Long will retain their positions as president and vice president, respectively.

• Approved an interlocal agreement with Van Buren Township for the township to pay $750 for maintenance and equipment expenses for Waubee Lake Park.

Gall said the park is in Van Buren Township and not in Milford, so they’re helping with that. She also so said the agreement has being ongoing for several years.

• Approved a bid from Brown Equipment Company, Fort Wayne, for maintenance items for the town’s street sweeper, not to exceed $6,870.90.
