The area’s lone class 4A squad, the Warsaw Tigers, drew a first-round bye in Sectional 4 at Elkhart’s North Side Gym. There are no easy outs in the six-team field comprised of Concord, Elkhart, Goshen, Northridge, and Penn. The Tigers were 3-2 against the field in regular season play.
The orange and black join the postseason in semifinal action Friday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they face the winner of the Tuesday, March 2, clash between Concord (9-9) and Elkhart (11-10).
Warsaw lost to the Concord Minutemen January 22 in the Tiger Den 37-33 but reversed their fortunes to win eight straight games thereafter. They needed a game-winning bucket to beat the Elkhart Lions 57-56 on January 30 in North Side Gym.
Northridge (16-4) drew a bye on the other side of the bracket. The Raiders will play at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 5. They will face the winner of the Tuesday, March 2, opening round fray between Penn (8-10) and Goshen (7-14).
Area Class 3A teams, Wawasee (9-11) and Tippecanoe Valley (6-14), will launch Sectional 21 Tuesday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. to earn the right to face NorthWood (11-8) Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. The sectional is hosted by West Noble in Ligonier. Other Sectional 36 entries include host Bluffton (7-12), Fort Wayne Canterbury (2-13), and South Adams (13-7).
Triton (14-5) begins its postseason run Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. against winless West Central at Culver Community High School in Class 1A Sectional 50. The six-team field has only one other team with a winning record (Argos 15-4).
