City Council Tables Streetlight Request At 200S, Falcon Dr.

February 17, 2021 at 2:09 a.m.

A request before the Warsaw Common Council Tuesday for a streetlight was tabled until the Council’s next meeting.

The streetlight request is for the intersection of CR 200S and Falcon Drive, according to information provided by city Assistant Planner Jonny Latsko, read by Mayor Joe Thallemer.

The aim of this light is to improve visibility and wayfinding along the corridor. The new light would be located on pole 633-535, on the northeast corner of the intersection. The proposed light is a 39kw 4K LED light, in line with the current efforts to transition to LED lights in the area, according to the information.

The appropriate placement and shielding will be used to prevent light from flooding into neighbors’ properties. Installation of the light was requested by Falcon Drive residents.

Councilwoman Cindy Dobbins said, “I could see where it’s a very valid concern, especially at night.”

Councilman Mike Klondaris said he wanted to know who requested this as it would affect two houses on CR 200S.

Another question he had was the location of the pole. If the light is on the southwest corner, it would illuminate the sign with the name of the neighborhood, even at night. If it is the house on the southeast corner, Klondaris said he thought it would probably be more impacted by the light. He said he’d like to have those questions answered before he proceeded. He was not questioning that the light needs to be out there though.

Thallemer said Latsko’s comments do address the lighting question when they state “appropriate placement and shielding will be used to prevent light from flooding into neighbors’ properties.”

Klondaris made a motion to table the request until the next meeting for more information. Dobbins provided the second, and the issue was tabled to the next meeting.

Thallemer suggested to Klondaris he get a hold of Latsko and find the answers to his questions.

At the end of the Council’s meeting, Thallemer also brought up that the Indiana Department of Transportation has agreed to study the U.S. 30 corridor and that a news release about it was sent out Tuesday (see story on page 1A of Wednesday’s newspaper). The study will take years, but it is a welcome step, he said.
