By Staff Report-
Funding has been expanded from high school seniors to currently enrolled college students, students with some credit returning to college and adult learners, according to a news release from Questa Education Program.
Through this partnership, Questa funds scholars from Kosciusko County pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field. Scholars have pursued degree fields such as nursing, biology, pre-med, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pre-pharmacy, dental hygiene and other healthcare programs. Selected students can receive up to $5,000 a year in forgivable loans for the duration of their undergraduate programs.
Both Questa and K21 are committed to investing in the next generation of healthcare workers by offering a low-interest, forgivable loan that can be up to 75% forgiven if a student lives and works in Northeast Indiana for five years after graduation and attends a partner school. A full list of partner schools is available on Questa’s website at www.questafoundation.org, according to the release. By providing an incentive for scholars to stay in the area, our region can retain more talented healthcare workers to contribute to our workforce and improve the health of our community.
“Questa has helped my family be able to take some of the initial load off paying my school bills. It has decreased our out-of-pocket cost, and I am so thankful that it comes with a reduced payback bill,” says Madelene Johnson, a Questa Scholar and graduate of Warsaw Community High School. “My career goals are to graduate with my BSN then begin working as an RN for a few years. After spending some time on the floor, I would like to go back to school to get my MNP and become a pediatric/family nurse practitioner.”
Johnson attends Indiana Wesleyan University and plans to graduate in May.
High school seniors and college freshmen seeking college funding for the fall of 2021 are encouraged to apply to the Traditional Scholars Program before the March 15 deadline. All other returning students and adult learners can apply through the Contemporary Scholars Program, open year-round. Both applications can be found on Questa’s website at www.questafoundation.org.
