The Warsaw Lady Tigers came away champions of their Sectional Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend.

Schools taking part in the meet held at WCHS were Cass, Columbia City, Culver Academies, Manchester, Northfield, Oregon-Davis, Pioneer, Plymouth, Rochester Community, Tippecanoe Valley, Wabash and Warsaw.

The Lady Tigers edged powerhouse Culver Academies by a mere 10 points, 430-420.

Warsaw junior Rachel Doyle captured the team’s only individual title of the meet by winning the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:02.88, edging out teammate Mariana Malagon who placed second. Doyle was also second in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle with Gracie Willig coming in third in that event.

Relays were what won it for the Lady Tigers though as they captured both the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, and  placed second in the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Other solid performers for the Lady Tigers were Macelyn Marcuccilli, who placed second in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle, and Marissa Howett, who was second in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle

Next up for Warsaw is the IHSAA Girls State Swimming Prelims  to be held at the IUPUI Natatorium on February 12.
