Jeff Dyson and Nathan Scherer, doing business as South Shore Ventures, appeared before the board Thursday and said they recently purchased five acres of the South Shore Golf Club at 10601 N. Ind. 13, Syracuse.
“The portion that we currently own is the clubhouse, cart barn and pavilion, along with the parking lot,” Dyson said. “We are also working with the county in providing financial support to secure the rest of the property, so we will be partners in the rest of the land. The intent is to keep nine holes of the golf course and include that in the floor plans of our overall scope once that transaction finalizes at the end of February.”
Dyson said they purchased the restaurant building on the property from Dennis and Tim Polk.
The two have a vision to reopen the restaurant by finding a restaurant to come in and rent out the facility.
“The immediate goal would be to find a restaurant to come in and basically run the business as a restaurant, and the liquor license would be basically leased to the restaurant owner,” Dyson explained. “We would, in a sense, become landlords and they would be our tenants with access to the liquor license. In the short term, if we can’t find a tenant this year, then we are considering opening up the kitchen and bar on a limited capacity so that we can hire bartenders and a wait staff, etc., to open up for this year just have some life back on the property.”
The board unanimously approved the transfer of ownership of the beer, wine and liquor restaurant license to Dyson and Scherer.
Also Thursday, Ledgeview Brewing Company, 975 Warren St., Warsaw, was on the docket. The business opened in late 2020 as a small brewpub that serves barbecue and batches of homemade beer.
Abigail McLaren came before the board to request a wine retailer restaurant permit so the business can offer wine to customers who don’t like beer.
“We understand that not all of our patrons enjoy beer but would still appreciate an alcoholic beverage,” she said. “We have no intention of serving liquor ever, but we thought it would be nice for our patrons that don’t want beer or Pepsi or water to be able to enjoy some wine.”
Her request was unanimously approved for recommendation to state ATC commissioners.
In other business, the board approved the following renewals: El Arriero, 819 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor restaurant permit; Westmain Tavern, 201 W. Main St., Syracuse, beer, wine and liquor riverfront permit; and Oak & Alley, 2308 E. Center St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor restaurant permit.
The county ATC board meets at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of the month.
