Peggy Lorene Pherigo, age 74, of Pierceton, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021,  at her home, with family by her side, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Peggy was born April 13, 1946, in Missouri, a daughter of Vecie Steele, who preceded her in death. On March 12, 1969, in Missouri, she married Buster Pherigo.

Peggy and Buster lived in Indiana for the last 43 years. Prior to that, they lived in Wellsville, Mo.

Peggy retired from Depuy Johnson and Johnson after 10 years of service. She loved giving to everyone and she enjoyed a day at the casino. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband watching westerns.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Buster Pherigo, of Pierceton; children: Mark (Monda) Pherigo, Rhonda (Kyle) Hanft and Susie (JR) Hurt, all of Indiana; nine grandchildren: Travis (Asley), Sydney and Ian Pherigo, Stuart and Braxton Hanft, Shannon Kent, Shanna (Travis) McDermite, Justin (Jamie) Hurt and Jake Hurt; along with 13 great-grandchildren. In addition, Peggy is survived by siblings, Pauline Frierson, Biloxi, Miss.; Eddie (Bonnie) Steele, Martinsburg, Mo.; Ruthie Devlin, Montgomery City, Mo.; and Howard (Nancy) Steele, Wellsville, Mo.; brother-in-law, Max Elder, sisters-in-law, Donna Jamison, and Celia Jamison.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vecie Steele; stepdad, Rolla Bentley; sisters, Bobby Pate, Mazie Elder, Doris (Thomas) Sowder; brother, Gilbert Steele; daughter, Vonda Steele; granddaughter, Brittney Pherigo; stepdaughter, Jean Kent; brothers-in-law, Russell Devlin, Jim Pate, Dale Thomas, Oscar Jamison, JC Jamison, Bobbie Barton; and sisters-in- law, Edna Steele, Penny Steele, Wanda Pherigo and Alice Barton.

At Peggy’s request, there will be no services.  

Arrangements are under the direction of McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
