I don’t know how much ink I’ve used trying to warn about our collapse to socialism. Oh, it is upon us but not in the form that I thought it would be. You see I always felt the Democrat Party would usher in socialism, and they have, but there is a much more powerful entity which has now exposed themselves. I missed the whole social media capture of our society. I am, as they would say, a “computer illiterate;” be that as it may, I don’t sit in waiting rooms mesmerized by a screen, punching buttons, curing some 6-inch-by-3-inch handheld device as if it was somehow responsible for my very being.
Well, it seems I was wrong. We’ve made this device, and it’s many social platforms, the center piece of our lives. Why talk to one another when we can just text a stream of three-letter acronyms. We’ve gen up our contact, our discourse with our fellow human being, everything that differentiates us from the robots ... and the apes. The companies who run these social platforms of social conversation and ideas has just shut the president of the United States up! They erased his ability to speak. I don’t know what you think about him as a person, but his and all of our rights of freedom of speech are protected by our Constitution. I’m starting to get the feeling that doesn’t matter any more.
We have allowed a privately-owned industry to get so big they can manipulate the very people we elect to represent us. Our elected officials will not step in to stop this egregious theft of our rights because half of them are in bed with Big Tech and the other half have already been silenced. While the Democrats bask in their assumed control of the mainstream media and Big Tech, and their ability to control the speech of conservatives, they are blinded by the money and power which put them in charge. They have no more control of this high-tech Leviathan than you or me.
Our neighbors also fear and dislike this cabal of high-tech monopolies, but are helpless to stop them. It is only our elected officials who can bring this corrupt construct down, and as I said, half of them are just peachie with their present situation. This is all so familiar to the novel by George Orwell, “1984.” He describes an elite world power dictating every facet of our lives, our speech, our liberty, unable to be rained in or brought back under control of the people.
Our present government now talks about a committee that will bet our military to insure they agree and will comply with the wishes of our government. I spent 21 years in the military. Upon entry, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. Why are these officials so insistent that our military comply with them? Why is our Capitol, “The People’s House,” now surrounded by fencing and concertina wire? Maybe they’re making a new edition of “Mortal Combat.”
