Student Council President Jaeda Carpenter said, due to the threat, all high school students got searched Monday. She said hearing from students Monday, she heard it made students feel safer. She knew some students weren’t really happy with the search, but knew the reason for it and they appreciated that.
“So thank you for keeping us safe,” Carpenter said.
Also during the meeting Monday, Tippecanoe Valley High School Principal Brandon Kresca presented the four Indiana Association of Schools Principals Rising Stars Class of 2023. They are Lily Ault, Abigail Bowers, Kaydence Mellott and Makena Smith.
Each Indiana high school was able to recognize up to four 11th-grade students based on their academic achievement, Kresca said. He said all four students are at the top of their class, exemplary role models, involved in numerous extracurricular organizations, participate in community service and are student leaders at TVHS.
Kresca also presented the Tippecanoe Valley Future Farmers of America Forestry Team to the Board. He said the team competed in the state competition Saturday at Purdue University, where they finished first. This is the second straight year they’ve won the forestry competition.
On Oct. 28, the team was named a Silver Emblem Team at the national contest in Indianapolis, he said.
The team members recognized Monday were Jesse Scott, Dawson Ault, Isaac Shafer, Lucas Parsons and Mike Jones.
In other business, the Board approved:
• Several grants, including $1,000 for winter coats from Dan Robinson, $1,100 to the Akron/Mentone Library fund from Mill Creek Church and $1,561 for Minds in Motion equipment from Grass Creek Memorial Fund.
• Several new hirings, including Elizabeth Brenton, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, family and consumer science teacher; and Leann Carr and Marianne Kromkowski, TVMS, instructional assistants.
