Doris Ellen Stiver, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.

Born Dec. 9, 1925, to David and Mable Miller Schuch, in Bremen, she was a lifelong “Bourbon-ite” in spirit. On April 13, 1946, she married her one and only love and soulmate, Harold Stiver.

Doris worked as a telephone operator, as well as in the cafeteria at Triton High School, and also as a home health caregiver through the years. However, her greatest joy were the countless years of teaching Sunday school, volunteering at the Country Church (Bourbon) and hosting summer Bible camps under the Maple tree in her yard in Westwood neighborhood. Post-retirement, Doris spent time helping her numerous friends and anyone in need by driving them to appointments, grocery shopping, taking them to church or just visiting with the people who loved her and knew her best. She was a fierce prayer warrior who always prayed for the ones she loved and cared for.

Once moving to Grace Village, Doris discovered that she had quite the artistic talent for painting in her beloved ARTcare Program. Over the years, she painted several original pieces that her family will cherish forever in their homes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, David and Mable Schuch; sister, Virginia Mead (Schuch); and numerous cousins and friends that she loved dearly.

Surviving are her daughter, Callie (David) Coppes, of Warsaw; granddaughters: Krista (Andy) Plank, of Montreal, Quebec; and Erin (Neal) Morrison, of Fishers; great-grandsons: Eli, Beckett, Drew Plank and Theo Morrison; and many friends and who will all miss her dearly.

The family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony due to COVID-19.
