Over two dozen large boxes of snacks, balls, card games, craft items and more were delivered Tuesday by Zimmer Biomet employees to the Kosciusko YMCA for its Kids Club within the schools as a way to give back this holiday season.

“We want to welcome everybody here today to recognize the Kosciusko County YMCA Kids Club before and after school group. This program certainly does not get the recognition that it deserves and often operates quietly behind the scenes,” said Zimmer Biomet Maintenance Supervisor Brian Fiedler in a brief ceremony at the YMCA. “The community appreciates all the hard work and effort that have been put into these programs, and Zimmer Biomet’s team members have security in knowing that these programs exist and find great value in plugging their children into these before and after school care programs.”

He continued, “We realize the important role that you play in the lives of many of the children in our community and would like to give back to your organization. During these challenging times, your impact has never been more evident.”

Over 100 Zimmer Biomet managers, supervisors and team members split into teams to gather donations for each of the 10 Kids Club sites in Kosciusko County. Each team had donation boxes labeled to go back to the YMCA Kids Club program or to Baker Youth Club. Each team was asked to provide – at the minimum – Clorox Wipes, four boxes of tissues, disposable face masks, washable markers, 48-count crayons, construction paper, glue sticks, Uno, Phase 10, Skip Bo, age-appropriate board games for kindergarten to fifth grade, a soccer ball, a basketball, a volleyball, a dodgeball or a kickball, 80-count fruit snacks, 40-count Lance sandwich crackers variety pack, 80-count granola bars and an assortment of juice boxes.

There were 27 boxes delivered to the YMCA.

“On behalf of Zimmer Biomet, please accept these donations as a token of our appreciation,” Fiedler said.

YMCA Chief Executive Officer Jim Swanson thanked Zimmer Biomet on behalf of the Y.

“This contribution is massive. Last year, such a huge success. We’re deeply affected, deeply grateful to you, for your willingness to choose us and the programs we’re doing in the community and recognize the value of them,” he said.

Swanson then introduced Stacy Thomas, YMCA director of operations, and Rachel Hardy, YMCA director of childcare and inclusive programming, calling them the “heroes behind this program.”

“We impact a lot of kids. They do all the work. They’re involved with the kids firsthand, with the school system, and I also want to give them also a chance to say thanks, but deeply appreciate you guys. Zimmer does so much for us here, so much, and here you are again, so thank you so much,” Swanson said.

Thomas echoed Swanson’s comments, adding, that it means a lot to the YMCA staff to be recognized and that Zimmer Biomet sees the value of what they’re doing.

“It’s an honor to serve all the kids in the programs that we run. Thank you,” she said.

Hardy said they appreciated everything Zimmer Biomet has done. Opening the new supplies is like Christmas to the kids, she said, and the new supplies help to “really enrich our program even more so we really appreciate that.”

Donation boxes will be delivered to Baker Youth Club on Wednesday, Dec. 15.
