Two Warsaw men were arrested after firearms, drugs and syringes were allegedly found in a vehicle they were pulled over in for a loud exhaust.

Larry Ellis Konkle, 54, of 1108 Fisher Ave., Warsaw, is charged with dealing in methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a Level 2 felony; possession of methamphetamine enhancing circumstances, a Level 3 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:01 a.m. Wednesday with a preliminary bond of $15,250.

Kyle James Gilson, 30, of 1018 Pike Shore Drive, Warsaw, is charged with dealing methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a Level 2 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

He was booked into the jail at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday with a preliminary bond of $15,250.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Saturday, on Wednesday a Warsaw police officer was  patrolling in the area of Bass and Lake streets, Warsaw, when the officer saw a tan 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The officer started driving behind the vehicle and noticed it had a louder-than-normal exhaust. The officer then saw the vehicle fail to signal 200 feet before making a turn on South Columbia Street and initiated a traffic stop.

The officer approached the driving side of the vehicle and saw a male driver, identified as Gilson, and a male passenger, later identified as Konkle. Both Konkle and Gilson provided the officer with Indiana government identification. The officer was provided registration to the vehicle, which came back as Gilson’s girlfriend’s father’s.

The officer asked Gilson and Konkle to exit the vehicle. A K9 gave a positive alert for narcotics in the vehicle when it was walked around the vehicle.

The officer searched the vehicle and located a black canvas container with a combination lock that was in front of the vehicle console, under the radio/climate control panel and within reach of the driver and passenger, according to court documents.

Inside the container were two black Taurus .22 caliber handguns with rounds in them, a black nylon holster, a box of 79 .22 rounds of ammunition, a glass pipe with burnt residue, two loaded syringes, four bags of prepackaged crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and had a total weight of 14.8 grams, a scale with white residue and a package of rolling papers, according to court documents.

The officer completed a warning for a loud exhaust and failing to signal properly for Gilson.

Gilson waived his Miranda rights and advised investigators that Konkle was aware of the contents of the bag, including the firearm, syringes and the packages of methamphetamine. Gilson also said Konkle was responsible for setting up deals for them to sell the methamphetamine. Gilson said the firearm was for protection during deals.

Konkle was convicted of dealing methamphetamine on Aug. 25, 2011, in Kosciusko County Circuit Court, according to court documents. He also has three pending cases. The first is for possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony; possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor; and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The second is for possession of a narcotic drug with enhancing circumstances, a Level 5 felony; unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. The third case is for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
