DENVER, Ind. – Manchester football opened up its season in dominating fashion Friday night, picking up a 42-6 Three River Conference victory at North Miami.
Junior quarterback Brock Casper, who threw for five touchdowns and 209 yards in the victory, led the Squires. Two of those TD passes went to senior wide receiver Seth Gaerte. Running back Braxton Ream finished with 113 yards on the ground as well as a touchdown.
Manchester’s defense also came to play, shutting out North Miami until the fourth quarter. The defense also added a touchdown of its own, taking a fumble recovery into the end zone. It was one of four fumbles forced.
The Squires will stay on the road Friday, taking on Bluffton.
Whitko FB Comes Up Short
LAGRANGE – Whitko football’s start to the 2021 campaign came up a bit short, as the Wildcats dropped their season opener to Prairie Heights 39-7. It was a tough game from start to finish, as Whitko’s offensive line gave up four sacks, and the offense turned the ball over twice.
The Wildcats will look to get into the win column for the first time Friday when the team travels to Peru to take on the Tigers
Warsaw Boys Soccer Gets Shut-out Victory
WARSAW – The Warsaw boys soccer team picked up a convincing win Saturday, defeating Lafayette Jefferson 9-0.
The win moves the Tigers record up to 2-1.
Junior Roberto Sanchez led the charge for Warsaw, scoring four goals in the victory. Junior Alexis Vargas also added two goals of his own. Javier Enciso, Noah Van Puffelen and Julian Saldivar rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. Warsaw plays its next game Tuesday at Huntington North.
LCA Boys Soccer Picks Up First Win
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian boys soccer picked up its first win of the season in convincing fashion, defeating North Miami 5-1. Senior Trey Avey was remarkable in the victory, scoring a hat trick in the first half. His brother Simon got an assist on one of his goals. The Cougars took a 4-0 lead into halftime and didn’t look back, adding one more goal and conceding only one on a penalty kick. Lakeland Christian will look to improve its record Thursday, taking on Bethany Christian in Goshen.
Manchester VB Finishes 5th At Elwood Invite
ELWOOD – Manchester Volleyball finished fifth at the Elwood Invite Saturday, going 2-2. The Lady Squires dropped their first two games to Danville (10-25, 17-25) and Elwood (11-25, 28-30) before picking up victories against Southern Wells (25-17, 25-18) and Lewis Cass (25-20, 25-11). Junior Aliala Atienza led the team with 23 service points, adding seven kills and 21 digs. Senior Blake Drasny led the team with 20 kills, and sophomore Paxton Baker’s 22 assists were the most on the team. Manchester’s record moves to 2-3 and the Lady Squires play their next game Thursday at North Miami.
Lady Tiger Golf Finishes 3rd at Warsaw Invitational
WARSAW – Warsaw girls golf finished in third place out of nine eligible teams at the Warsaw Invitational on Saturday, shooting a 360.
Marie Frazzetta led the Tigers, shooting an 88. Four of the five Warsaw golfers shot 91 or under, the most of any team besides winners Homestead.
Homestead’s Madison Dabagia won the individual portion of the competition, shooting a 66.
