Whitko Girl’s Golf Drops Close Match to Northfield

NORTH MANCHESTER - Whitko Girls Varsity Golf suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of Northfield 201-226  Tuesday. Kloe Krieg, who shot a 53, led the Lady Cats. Guinny Garr, Jillian Starkweather and Ariel Ross also contributed to Whitko’s scoring.

The Lady Cats were aided by Justine Ocken, who stepped up to the varsity team for the first time as a late fill in, and played well in her role as a substitute. Ainsley Dale of Northfield was a medalist, shooting a 45.

The Lady Cats next contest is on Wednesday against Oak Hill.



Cougar  Soccer Comes Up Short in Season Opener

WINONA LAKE - Lakeland Christian Academy Varsity boys Soccer dropped its season opener to Elkhart Christian by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. The game’s lone goal came off of the boot of Luke Schramm, and was the difference of the game. Despite the lone goal conceded by the Cougars, Senior goalkeeper Peter Koller led the way with six saves.

“Tough start to our season, we were playing through some injuries and the guys gutted through some difficult circumstances,” head coach Dan Miller said. “Peter Koller made a few great saves in goal, and Nate Reimink played an excellent all-around game. There was a lot to build on from tonight, and I believe we can grow from this result.”

The Cougars play their next game against North Miami on Saturday.

Tippecanoe Valley boys Soccer Starts Off Strong, Limps to Finish Line in Opener

AKRON - It was a tale of two halves for the Tippecanoe Valley boys Varsity Soccer team as the Vikings lost to Caston by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday night’s season opener. The first half was dominated by the Vikings, as goals from junior Jon Ruiz and sophomore Carson Craft made the score 2-0 at the 20 minute mark. The lead was shrunk to 2-1 with about ten minutes left in the first half when Caston scored on a breakaway.

The second half belonged to the Comets. After tying the game at the 45-minute mark, Caston dominated possession the rest of the way, scoring two more goals and shutting out the Vikings in the second half. Multiple Valley players dealt with leg cramps on what was a hot and humid night. The Vikings will try to bounce back on Thursday when they take on Northwood.



Wawasee boys Soccer Shows Fight in Second-Half, Comes up Short Against Westview

SYRACUSE - After trailing by a score of 5-0 at halftime, the Wawasee boys Varsity Soccer team was able to add two goals in the second half in a 7-2 loss to Westview in the season opener.

Junior Isaac Hodges added a free kick goal in the second half, and junior Reuben Camargo added his name to the score sheet as well.

“We showed signs of togetherness but too late in the game,” head coach Jordan Sharp said when asked about his team’s performance. “Westview showed their class and blew by our goalkeeper in the first half, making any comeback challenging.”

Wawasee plays its next game against South Bend Riley  Monday.



Tippecanoe Valley Plays First Girl’s Varsity Soccer Game in School History, Loses to Culver

AKRON - The Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings made history on Monday, playing in the school’s first ever varsity girls soccer match, a 13-1 loss to Culver Community.

After holding the Cavaliers scoreless for the first 14 minutes, Culver managed to score eleven goals in the first half. The lone bright spot for the Lady Vikings came in the 34th minute, when junior captain Jessica Brito buried a penalty kick for the first goal in program history.



Wawasee Volleyball takes down Tippecanoe Valley, Improves to 2-0 on Season

AKRON - Wawasee volleyball took down Tippecanoe Valley 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 Tuesday night for the team’s second win of the year. Senior Dylan Konieczny led the Warriors with 13 kills, also adding two blocks. Junior Amanda Allen helped her team’s cause by chipping in with 29 assists. For the Lady Vikings, senior Mallory Durkes led the way with eight kills and two blocks of her own. Wawasee plays its next match on Monday against Lakeland, while Tippecanoe Valley has a much quicker turnaround, facing off with Plymouth on Wednesday.



Triton Sporting Events Going Cashless for 2021-22 Athletic Seasons


BOURBON - In an email sent out by the school, the Triton  athletic department announced tickets purchased for home athletic events will now be cashless transactions. Tickets can be purchased using the EventLink website 48 hours in advance or a credit or debit card at the gate.
