Whether you’re into Spider-Man or Batman, the Avengers or Star Wars, free comic books will be available Saturday.

Chimp’s Comix, 919 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, is hosting Free Comic Book Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. as part of the national Free Comic Book Day.

An annual event, Free Comic Book Day is usually held in May, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the 2020 event to become a nine-week weekly event and then it was moved this year to this Saturday.

Nick Kelley, Chimp’s Comix owner, said anyone can come into the business Saturday for two free comics. For more comics, a person only needs to donate one non-perishable food item for each additional comic they want. All donations will be given to The Salvation Army. In 2019, over 3,000 canned goods were collected.

“We hope to do better this year with two years (worth of comics) and the Salvation Army really needs it this year,” Kelley said.

Highlights of this year’s comics, he said, include Sonic, Star Wars High Republic, Spider-Man, The Avengers, Batman, King Shark from The Suicide Squad, The Boys and Critical Role.

“This year we have 55 new ones,” he said, with 154 comics being offered that includes last year’s offerings.

Check Chimp’s Comix’s Facebook page for a full list of comics and sales. The store’s website can be found at https://www.chimpscomix.com/.
