A Larwill man is charged with fraud after he allegedly agreed to use a relative’s debit card to buy groceries but spent money on items for himself.

Gavin Jack Harris, 19, of 10275 W. CR 275S, #57, Larwill, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:15 a.m. Saturday and charged with fraud on a financial institution, a Level 5 felony; and theft, a Level 6 felony.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed April 14 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Feb. 24 a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office detective spoke with a woman who said between November 2020 and February 2021, Harris had stolen between $4,500 and $5,00 from her bank account.

The woman told police that Harris was helping her by purchasing groceries and other daily necessities while he was living with her, and that she had authorized the purchases for the household goods.

However, according to the affidavit, Harris made multiple purchases and ATM withdrawals that were not approved by the woman. The woman told police she confronted Harris about the purchases, and he admitted he did that and agreed to pay her back in full, according to court papers.

When police spoke with Harris, according to the affidavit, he admitted he used the card without permission for purchases that totaled $4,647.66.

His bond was set at $6,500.
