The Warsaw Tigers’ and the Huntington North Vikings’ baseball squads each featured strong pitching, but the Vikings took the late lead in a 2-1 win over the Tigers at Warsaw’s Tiger Athletic Complex.

The Vikings broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning, scoring on a stolen base. The guests drew first blood in the opening inning when pitcher Austin Oswalt was at the plate with two runners on base on and no outs. Oswalt managed to drive in a run although he grounded into a double play.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the second inning with a Joey Springer solo homer to knot the contest at one run apiece.

Warsaw’s Sam Justice, despite picking up the loss, pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two Vikings. Khareus Miller had Warsaw’s other base hit, and Alex Light’s defensive play (ten putouts) led the way for the Tigers’ error-free outing.

Huntington North, however, used three pitchers, Oswalt, Foster McDonald, and Cam McCarver to strike out 11 Tigers. Cruz Fuentes led Huntington’s batters with a 2-3 evening at the plate.
