Heather Desenberg, Work Release director, said she made a short list of some of the things Work Release has been doing since Jan. 1 and where they’re at.
Work Release had a finance class, which Desenberg said went really well with follow up. Some of those in Work Release went to an area bank and one person set up a retirement account.
Wednesday night, Desenberg said the Work Release had a partnership with Fellowship Mission to do a mentor program. Fellowship Mission was planning on bringing 10 to 15 mentors and Work Release was going to take 20 to 25 residents to see if they can match with anyone on the outside as a mentor.
There have been some adjustments to jobs for those in Work Release, Desenberg said. Now, the department is going the people’s backgrounds so they can place them in career positions when they get out of jail.
Courtney Jenkins, Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JCAP) coordinator, updated the board on the program.
JCAP currently has eight men enrolled in the program.
“And they are doing phenomenal,” she said. The class took a basic certification test for one of the classes and they all passed with scores of over 90%, with two scoring 100% on the test. Jenkins said the instructor for the class hasn’t had anyone score 100% on that test in her class before, the community included.
Jenkins said the group is hard working and works well with the instructors.
Jenkins said JCAP plans to start men’s and women’s programs in July after the program’s June 18 graduation.
Sheriff Kyle Dukes said this week is telecommunications week. He recognized dispatch workers, including dispatcher Jessica Shield and assistant director Deb Carpenter.
Dukes said the dispatch team does a phenomenal job and has one of the toughest jobs. Without dispatch, the sherriff’s office didn’t know what they’d do, he said.
He said the sheriff’s office appreciates them.
In other business, the board heard a field day is on Saturday at the Warsaw Police Department’s gun range. It’s going to be a scenario-based training, said Traffic Control Sgt. Mike Mulligan.
