KREMC Will Be Offering High-Speed Internet To Area

Tuesday, the cooperative has announced they will be answering yet another call for essential services, according to a news release from KREMC.
“We were founded out of a response to a need,” said KREMC President and CEO Kurt Carver. “Today, many of our members do not have access to reliable internet service because of where they live. Meeting the needs of this community is our story. It’s what we do. Our community needs broadband for education, health care and community development. Studies show reliable internet service is vital in attracting and retaining families and businesses. No question, this is a massive step for us and in an entirely different playing field, but helping rural communities build essential services is what cooperatives are designed to do. KREMC is well poised to meet the needs for reliable high-speed internet in this community. We’re excited to do it. We’re not talking about customers; we’re talking about our friends and neighbors. KREMC is local, and we’re honored to have built a reputation of honesty and reliability in this community, our members can count on us.”
The initiative is already underway, and full implementation will be sooner than initially projected, according to the release. KREMC says they are anticipating a two-year project. The process begins with building a fiber infrastructure that will assist the cooperative to work more rapidly and cost-effectively to expand internet services. This plan allows KREMC to build a world-class smart grid in the region, at the lowest possible cost, while not impacting KREMC members’ electric rates, which are the lowest in the state, the release states.
KREMC will release more information as they move forward with this project.
