Lisa Janelle Thomas, 48, of 4343 W. Ind. 14, South Whitley, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:17 p.m. Saturday and faces charges for criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause filed Sept. 17 in Kosciusko Superior Court I, at 9:39 p.m. Aug. 9, Kosciusko County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to Thomas’ South Whitley home to assist Whitley County deputies with an investigation involving a domestic disturbance that had occurred in Kosciusko County.
Upon arrival, police spoke with Thomas and the victim, who both told police they had spent their day at the Oakwood Inn. They said they both consumed alcohol and then decided that Thomas would drive them back to South Whitley. During the car ride, according to the affidavit, the two got into a physical altercation and Thomas reached for her 9mm handgun in the driver’s side door. The gun went off, they said, and caused injury to the man’s finger. Police also observed a bullet hole on the bottom of the steering column and in the driver’s side window.
Both had told police they did not know how the firearm discharged, and medics cleaned the man’s finger.
The following day, Thomas told a KCSO detective she wanted to report her injuries she suffered in the physical altercation with the man, that included bruising. Thomas wanted to further make clear to police the following day that both she the man were “extremely intoxicated” during the incident.
Her bond was set at $5,250, and a no-contact order was issued.
