He was born to Alfred and Iva Nelson on Aug. 11, 1935, in Kosciusko County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 15 siblings; his beautiful daughter, Tammy Campbell; and grandson, Michael Russell.
On July 28, 1958, he married Sandra Denny. She survives along with daughters, Juanita Russell (Dave), of Warsaw; Kim Cassella (Rick), Brenda Nelson and Beth Campbell (David), all of Elkhart; son, John (Andi). of Charleston, W.Va.; and son-in-law, John Campbell, of Bristol. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Marc, Jamie, Missy, Kristina, Christopher, Joey, Adam, Tony, Stephen, Tricia, David, Michael and Cassie; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In 1995, Oliver retired from Nipsco Gas Company with 32 years of service. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, he loved gardening, camping, he enjoyed cutting wood, playing cards, tractor pulls and loved his dogs. He was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He spent his lifetime building a legacy of true love with his family. His character was amazing and will never be forgotten. Our dad did not tell us how to love, he showed us.
Celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2222 West Indiana Ave., Elkhart. Friends may call between noon and 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his care.
