John was born on Sept. 28, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late George Joseph and Violet Kunz Bogold. He married on Jan. 26, 1952, in Orchard Park, N.Y., to Annette Bapst; she survives.
John retired after 42 years from Bethlehem Steel in Porter. He also served as a police officer in earlier years in Silver Creek, N.Y. He was a graduate of Burgard Vocational High School of Buffalo, N.Y. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a part of the National Guard.
He was a member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. John was also a member of the Moose and a Mason. He served as exalted ruler and was honored for his outstanding work as a part of the Hobart Elks Lodge and later became an active member of the Rochester Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Bogold, Claypool; children, George J. and wife Lori Bogold, Portage; Bonnie and husband Brian Zale, Wheatfield; John H. Bogold, Claypool; Becky Sue Joros, Valparaiso; grandchildren: Rachel Renee Conn, Phillip Dyniewski, Amber Belleville, James Joros, Jessica Joros and Karl Greer; great-grandchildren: Bryce Dyniewski and Blake Belleville; brother, George Bogold Jr.; sisters, Vicky Doerfler, Kathy Gallivan and Linda Kraus.
He was preceded in death by parents, George and Violet Bogold; and brother, James “Jimmy” Bogold.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, 9798 W. CR 1000S, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. A time of fellowship and a meal will take place after the service at the church. Please follow all social distancing guidelines for the health of all in attendance.
The arrangements are entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
