Cleda Ann Swope passed away quietly in the care of hospice on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at 12:01 p.m. in her rural Warsaw home. A longtime area resident, she was 84 years old.

Born on Aug. 29, 1936 in Muncie, Cleda was the daughter of Joseph E. and Neola P. Lawhorn. As a young child, her family moved to the South Bend area where she attended school. On May 26, 1955, Cleda was married to Dean Swope; the pair met when Dean was folding newspapers near her home in preparation for his delivery route and they’d been inseparable since.

Cleda was strong, caring and kind. She made friends easily and could strike up a conversation with seemingly anyone. She loved to travel and was a fantastic cook. She is well remembered for her love of Halloween and her popcorn balls which were so good that kids often came back for more. She loved Christmas, too, and time spent with her family. She had been involved with the PTA while her children were in elementary school and even chaperoned a school trip to Mexico.

Those who survive with memories to cherish include her husband of 65 years, B. Dean Swope; daughter, Christina (Jennifer) Swope; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Swope; and grandchildren: Beatrice Cooper, Sophie Swope, Wesley Soliday, Morgan Swope and Avery Swope, all of Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Bruce Dean Swope (2018) and Steven Edward Swope (2019); and sister, Beatrice Swope.

A Life Celebration® is planned with Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. Visitors may gather there on Wednesday, Sept. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. At noon, Certified Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus will officiate Cleda’s funeral service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

*****

Memorial gifts may be directed to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, P.O. Box 1906, Warsaw, IN 46581 and would be appreciated by the family.

Written condolences may be left for the family at www.TitusFuneralHome.com.
