“While people gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., a local event is joining them to pray along with others around America and the world,” according to information provided by Ken Locke, director of Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association.
The event will be held at Calvary Tabernacle of Winona Lake, 1300 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, from noon to 4 p.m.
While there have been local National Day of Prayer and Repentance events in the past, this is the first one at Calvary Tabernacle of Winona Lake as far as he knows, said Locke. The reason for choosing the church is Winona Lake has history with prayer vigils and GWMA wanted the event to be outside due to COVID. The church has a large outdoor field.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, according to Locke.
Those attending are asked to refrain from wearing any political items or displaying any signs.
Locke said GWMA doesn’t want the event to be a rally for any political side, noting the Sept. 26 is “a spiritual statement.”
“We want to focus on the spiritual aspect of what’s going on in the world,” he said.
The afternoon will be led by various pastors and leaders who will pray on different themes.
Locke said prayer will make up most of the event, but there will be some worship music and some fellowship, as well.
“NGDPR is calling everyone to an appointed time set apart for one purpose: the return to God by coming before His presence in humility, in sincerity, in prayer and repentance,” Locke said. It is an "Appeal To Heaven," seeking healing and reconciliation in these trying times.
Locke said he hopes people are renewed through the National and Global Day of Prayer and Repentance event and are able to live like Jesus would in the community.
