NORTH MANCHESTER - Coach Jen Birch describes Lainey Shock as someone who is all over the soccer field and does things that don’t always show up on the stat sheet.

The Manchester High School senior found her way onto the stat sheet in a big way Wednesday night as she led the Lady Squires to a 5-0 win over the visiting Culver Lady Cavaliers.

Shock finished the 80-minute match with two assists and a goal of her own.

She assisted classmate Beletu Stout as the hosts took a 1-0 lead just five minutes in, and then scored herself five minutes later to put Manchester up 2-0, a score the Lady Squires took into the intermission.

“The girl is just playing phenomenal this year,” Birch said of Shock. “She does a lot of the things that are not statable, but she’s a part of everything that happens with our team. She slides in all different positions and plays them until she’s about ready to pass out.

“She plays hard all the time. She sees the field and she sees her teammates.”

With the win, the Lady Squires improved to 7-5 on the season. It was their fourth win in the last six matches.

The quick start was a big key to beating the Lady Cavaliers, who entered the contest with a record of 7-3-1.

“Culver is quick, they’ve got some really great forwards up top,” said Birch. “For us to come out of the gate, get the first two goals, build that confidence in our team and play some really good defense was really beneficial to our team.”

Senior goal keeper Kindra Stetzel converted a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead in the 71st minute, while senior Emma Garriott (74th min) and Stout (80th min) rounded out the scoring.

“The girls played hard,” said Birch. “They wanted it, and they showed up.”

The Lady Squires play Three Rivers Conference foe Rochester Monday.
