MENTONE – Bonnie Lou Whittenberger, 92, formerly of Nappanee and the Beaver Dam community, passed at 7:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at Paddock Springs of Warsaw.

Bonnie was born on April 6, 1928, in Kosciusko County, to Robert O. and Mary Miller Jones. She was married on June 22, 1947, at Millwood Chapel, Scott Township, Etna Green, to Richard S. Whittenberger, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1995. She lived most of her life in the Beaver Dam community and moved to Nappanee in 1993.

She was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School in 1947. Bonnie had been a homemaker, a farmer’s wife and an antique dealer at Amishland Antique Mall of Nappanee. She was a 66-year member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, where she was song leader since 15 years old and concluded in her 80s. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for many years. Bonnie also served as 4-H leader of the Beaver Dam Club, leader of Farm Bureau Women’s Club and a member of the County Chorus. She entertained many clubs and organizations with her programs about memories and hats.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha and husband Richard Coppes, Atwood; sons: Steve Whittenberger, Nappanee; and Jon Whittenberger and Kim, Mentone; three grandchildren:?Susan Coppes, Nicole Graber and Scottie Whittenberger; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Richard Jr. and Robert Coppes; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Whittenberger; and sisters, Ada Babcock and Rosalie Fisher.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, 9798 W. CR 1000S, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. The interment will follow in the Stony Point Cemetery, Etna Green. Visitation hours will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron. Masks will be required for all in attendance for the services.

The services are entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
