Lakeland Christian Boys Soccer Falls In Clash Of Ranked Squads

AUBURN – Zach Collins scored twice for Class 1A No. 2 Lakewood Park Christian in its 3-1 win over visiting 1A No. 14 Lakeland Christian Academy in a boys soccer showdown Thursday.

Collins scored in the 27th and 42nd minute, with Blake Miller adding a goal in the 38th minute.

Brayden Lane got the Cougars on the board in the final minute of play.

“We played hard tonight, but Collins is one of the best strikers in Class 1A,” said cougar head coach Dan Miller. “We tried to contain him, but it was difficult to keep up with his pace and movement off the ball. Lakewood is one of the best teams in the state and a potential sectional opponent.

“We learned a lot from this game. Micah Burns played well in midfield, and Brayden Lane notched his 10th goal of the season.”

Now 5-3-1, LCA hosts Caston at noon Saturday.



Warriors Trim Lakers

SYRACUSE – Ethan Carey, Alec Wortinger and Isaac Hodgers each scored goals for Wawasee in its 3-0 win over visiting Lakeland High School Thursday.

Now 6-2 overall, Wawasee will host Bremen in a non-conference match Monday.



Eastbrook Doubles Up Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER – Emma Garriott scored twice, including a penalty kick goal, for Manchester in its 4-2 loss to visiting Eastbrook in a non-conference girls soccer match Thursday.

Kindra Stetzel was credited with eight saves in the match.

Manchester will host West Noble in a non-conference match at 10 a.m. Saturday.



Valley Splits In TRC Golf

ROCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley gained a split in a Three Rivers Conference girls golf match Thursday. It’s score of 201 was better than North Miami’s 237. Maconaquah got two wins with a score of 172.

Scores for the Vikings were: Kaydence Mellott 47, Madelyn Weaver 49, Lily Ault 50, Lydia Miller 50, Cheney Canada 55, and Molly Moriarty 60.

All three teams will play in the TRC Tournament Saturday at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.



Wawasee Edges Fremont

SYRACUSE – Taylor Cripe was the medalist, posting a 40 for Wawasee in its 193-195 non-conference win over visiting Fremont at Maxwelton Golf Club Thursday.

Rylee Firestone had a 49 and Tate Cowan a 50 for the Warriors. Ayla orres posted a 54, while Izy Losee and Delaney LeLaGrange each shot a 55.

Wawasee will host the Northern Lakes Conference tournament Saturday at South Shore Golf Club.



Raiders Sweep Warriors

MIDDLEBURY – Northridge swept all five matches against visiting Wawasee in a Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis match Thursday.

Wawasee (6-9, 0-4 NLC) travels to Warsaw for a conference match Tuesday.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves.
