SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s Holden Babb won his match at No. 1 singles in three sets over West Noble’s Nate Shaw, giving the Warriors a 3-2 win over the visiting Chargers in a non-conference boys tennis match Wednesday.
After winning the first set 6-2, Babb dropped a close secont set 6-4 before rebounding to win the finale 6-2 with all eyes on he and Shaw and the match on the line.
Devon Kuhn won a tight match in straight sets at No. 3 singles for Wawasee, 7-5, 6-4 over West Noble’s Luke Schermerhorn. After a tight first set, the Warriors No. 1 doubles duo of Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut won 7-5, 6-2 over Brayden Bohde and Nevin Phares.
In junior varsity play, Jay Duncan won a pair of one-set matches for Wawasee.
Now 6-8 overall, Wawasee returns to Northern Lakes Conference play tonight, traveling to Middlebury to take on Northridge. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
Wawasee Golf Falls To Eagles
CULVER – Taylor Cripe led Wawasee with a 46 and Tate Cowan shot a 48 for the Warriors in their 159-204 loss to host Culver Academies Wednesday.
Rylee Firestone and Izy Losee wach shot a 55, Ayla torres a 56 and Delaney DeLaGrange a 59 for Wawasee.
The Warriors have a non-conference match against visiting Fremont today.
Vikings Best Squires
NORTH MANCHESTER – Visiting Huntington North beat Manchester 200-242 in a non-conference girlsgolf match Wednesday at Sycamore Golf Club.
Delani Henderson led the Squires with a 55, followed by chaynee Tennant’s 59. Kayla Hippensteel had a 61, alexis Gearhart a 67 and Emma Ulrey a 69.
“We didn’t play the best overall as a team but proud of Chaynee Tennant for her personal career-low of 59,” said Manchester head coach Josh Troyer. “We continue to play some solid holes but must continue to look to put full rounds together as we near conference and sectional championship season. I am looking forward to seeing how we respond (Thursday) night.”
Tonight Manchester takes on Warsaw at Stonehenge Golf Club, with first tee set for 5:30 p.m.
