He was born on March 5, 1951, in Elkhart, to Virgil Otis and Olivene May Ott Richards.
He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1970 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. He formerly worked at Syracuse and Goshen rubber companies and retired from Parker Hanafin in Syracuse after 42 years of service.
He is survived by a niece, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Dennis, Joseph and Mark Richards.
Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in the Solomon Creek Cemetery, near Benton, with Pastor Stan Owen officiating.
Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
