The 2020-21 volunteers for Kosciusko County’s Teen Court were sworn into service Monday by Kosciusko Superior Court I Judge David Cates. Pictured (L to R) are, front row: Leona Sellers, Carly Hastings, Kate Deloe, Nyla White, Megan White; back row: Clayton Firestone, Lazarus O'Connell-Neer, Brennan Cox, Brianna Feldman, Josie Niebbia, Regan Brouwer, Keely Roe, Keller Bailey. Teen Court is made up of volunteers and led by Betsey Vastbinder. The court’s mission aims to give juvenile participants a second chance to keep them out of the juvenile justice system by focusing on rehabilitation, restitution and reconciliation. If the participant completes all sanctions that the peer jury assigns within a 60-day period, the police report is forgiven and that offense will not be on the teen’s record. To date, nearly 100 juveniles have been forgiven for their run-ins with the law through Teen Court.
