Valley Soccer Falls To Maconaquah In Overtime

AKRON – What started out as a promising beginning, ended in a tough luck loss for Valley tonight as Maconaquah came back from a two-goal second half deficit to force overtime, and eventually beat the scrappy Vikings 4-3.

Valley built a 2-0 first half lead, behind a goal by Jon Ruiz, and an own goal by the Braves. Maconaquah cut into the Valley lead right before the half to trail 2-1 at the intermission. Valley, down two starters, opened a 3-1 lead behind a goal by Caleb Petgen.

Maconaquah fought back, wearing down the thin Vikings knotting the game at 3-3 and forcing extra time.

With eight seconds remaining in the first overtime, Valley was called for a penalty, and the Braves converted the penalty kick to move ahead 4-3. That was how it ended, as the  Vikings tried, but couldn't square the game in the second seven minute overtime.

Valley has been competitive in every game so far this young season, but is still searching for win number one. Next up for the Vikings is a home date with North Miami Tuesday.

Get To Know The Team: Warsaw Captains Q&A
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of going to a Warsaw football practice and speaking with four of the team’s five captains. With so much having been written in recent weeks about their performance on the field, and rightfully so, I wanted to peel back the curtain a bit and ask them some questions about themselves. Each of the four players were asked the same eight questions. Below are each of their answers.
