Being Republican

There have been two issues recently in your Letters to the Editor that I believe requires another perspective.

First is straight-ticket voting. I am a Republican primarily because of the Republican platform, principles and beliefs. Among other Conservative points, I am pro-life, for low taxes, less government interference in our lives, strong national defense, secure borders and personal responsibility. The Constitution is our guide and not a living document. We love our country, flag, and the standards of our founders. I want to vote for other Republicans with similar ideals.

The Democratic perspective is the opposite of mine. We have no choice but to assume that our Democratic opponents subscribe to the Godless far-left views that the current Democratic Party has adopted. Why would I vote for anyone who is a member or candidate with that liberal, far-left political perspective? I have family members I love dearly and friends who are Democrats; however, I could never vote for them to be a leader in my community, state or country. Why? Because I would expect them to follow the direction of their party. That is why I am and must be a Republican straight-ticket voter.

My second issue is a response to the letter writer who said that the Kosciusko County Republican leadership selected Chad Miner as the Superior Court 3 judge candidate. This statement is not valid. Chad Miner was one of four Republican candidates in the spring primary contest. He was chosen from that group and nominated to be on this ballot by 3,688 Kosciusko County Republican voters. Not party leadership.

On the contrary, the Democratic candidate was selected and slated by the Democratic chairman or Committee to be their candidate, not the majority of Democratic voters.
