MENTONE – Mentone Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at Ace Hardware of Mentone, 206 E. Main St.

Devin Severns took ownership of Ace Hardware with grandfather Ron Severns Sept. 25.

Devin said he worked previously at that location for 12 years, so buying the business “was kind of a no-brainer.”

“I enjoy doing it, I enjoy helping people and being part of the community,” Devin said. He said he hopes to grow the business. He also hopes to keep the business as it is and “keep it like a family-type thing.”

Devin said most of the employees at Ace are family. Currently, there are four employees. A couple of the employees are not family members, “but most of them are,” Devin said.

Devin said everything is working out well with owning the business with Ron.

“So far, so good. I’m just glad he helped me out,” Devin said. “He knew I needed the help, so he was happy to help keep it. I’ve done this for so long, it just made sense.”

When asked what excited him most about being the owner, Devin said, “There’s no pressure. I mean there’s pressure, but if I mess up, it’s on me. I don’t have to worry about someone else telling me.”

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
