SYRACUSE – Mona Belle Byrd, 98, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Mason Health & Rehab in Warsaw.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1921, in North Webster, to Ray and Nora Mock Firestone.

She was a lifetime Syracuse/North Webster area resident and graduated in 1940 from Syracuse High School. She was married on Feb. 24, 1940, to James H. “Jim” Byrd, who preceded her in 1990. She retired from Dana Corporation in Syracuse after 13 years and formerly worked at G & W Pizza in Syracuse.

She enjoyed making pies for family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Lawson-Moser, of North Webster; and Linda Simcox, of Syracuse; son, David (Dawn) Byrd, of Campobello, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Elyra “Sid” Firestone; and three sisters: Vera White, Velma Biltz and Kathryn Kline.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw. Private graveside services will be held in the Syracuse Cemetery at a later date.

Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
