GoBabyGo! Giveaway At Half Time During WCHS Football Game Friday

By Staff Report-

Abbi Richcreek, PLTW teacher at Edgewood Middle School, along with her students, former students, community volunteers and parents, will present four customized vehicles during half time at the Warsaw Community High School football game on Friday.

The completion and gifting of the second set of Jeeps to be modified for GoBabyGo! at Edgewood was temporarily suspended in March, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools. On Friday, all who contributed to this project will have the opportunity to see four faces light up when they receive their customized Jeeps. Emmitt, Zorey, Jordynn and Bryar will each receive a modified 12-volt vehicle.

With this mobility gift, these children will have increased independent movement experiences that allow expression, play, socialization and exploration for learning.

Over 20 Edgewood students committed to delivering on their promise.

"Volunteers from last year's program returned to complete their projects. Students who graduated from Edgewood Middle School and went on to WCHS also came back," said Richcreek.

Emmitt, Zorey, Jordynn and Bryar had a team of students consulting with mentors to work through a design process to meet unique needs of their child client, stated the news release. Richcreek also arranged to have physical therapist Dr. Aaron Turner on site to answer questions about mobility so teams could make assessments and engineer alterations to create a specialized vehicle.

Richcreek thanks all who support GoBabyGo! She appreciates the ongoing partnerships with volunteers from WCS Maintenance Department, DePuy, Zimmer Biomet, Dalton Foundry and Paragon Medical who serve as mentors and give their time and talents.

Richcreek set up a Go Fund Me account to raise money for next year's project.

Each customized vehicle costs approximately $500. Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) have already stepped forward to sponsor a vehicle, leaving a goal of $1,500. An earlier donation to WCS from Clearwater Car Wash will be designated to Edgewood's GoBabyGo! for $1,500.

With 2021 now fully funded, public and business donations will be applied toward vehicles for 2022.

Individuals and business who would like to donate and ensure that four more children have the opportunity for increased independence in 2022 can find details at http://bit.ly/gofundme2021.
