The man who was involved in a standoff with police Oct. 1 allegedly had consumed alcohol.

Quincy Akeem Jenkins, 27, of 212 S. Union St., Apt. C, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Oct. 1 after being taken into custody by Kosciusko County SWAT and faces charges for burglary, a Level 4 felony; theft, a Class A misdemeanor; criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor; and public nudity, a Class C misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Oct. 1 a Kosciusko County Sheriff deputy responded to a report of a man breaking into a residence.

Upon arrival, the officer spoke with two men who said Jenkins had broken into the rear of a home nearby and had undressed while fleeing after attempting to get into various vehicles in the area. Jenkins allegedly broke a window and entered a home and was completely nude at that point. When SWAT operators were able to eventually get Jenkins to surrender by speaking to him through a SWAT robot speaker they put in the home, Jenkins was observed to be wearing pants that he had stolen from the home, and the home had been ransacked, according to court papers. A bed was damaged, a jar of coins was broken on the staircase and a bottle of wine, several bottles of beer and a half bottle of scotch had been consumed by Jenkins while in the home, according to the affidavit.

Total damage to the home was estimated to be $2,500. Jenkins was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were consistent with climbing through a broken window, according to the affidavit.

According to court records, Jenkins was convicted of burglary in 2012, battery in 2017, theft in 2016, conversion in 2015 and 2011, and was currently out on bond for an auto theft charge and had two active warrants for failing to appear in two separate cases.

Jenkins’ bond was set at $5,250.

Divide And Conquer
Editor, Times-Union: It is glaringly obvious to anyone with functioning brain cells that today’s MAGA (formerly known as the Grand Old Party) has only one strategy to win the 2024 election: divide and conquer and pull the wool over the voting public’s eyes. Their playbook consists of misinformation, distortion of facts, projections, conspiracy theories and plain old bald-faced lies. If they cannot find damning evidence of lawlessness or evil deeds in their opponents’ resumes, they just make something up: Kamala’s intelligence or race, Tim’s real pet dog or his mysterious connection to China; Biden’s unwillingness to help America’s catastrophe victims.

High Stakes
Editor, Times-Union: Our future is on the ballot from the presidential race at the top of the governor’s race and all the key races down ballot. Control of Congress, our ability to vote, our democratic processes, long-held freedoms, are all on the ballot. “A lot of the things that get decided at the federal level really are so distanced from the everyday of peoples’ lives ... But the state-level elections are the ones that really have a huge, huge impact ...” (AARP Bulletin, July-August 2024)
