Sectional VB Pairings Announced

Pairings for the 49th annual state tournament were drawn Sunday evening by the IHSAA.
The Tigers are home to a six-team event beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, but won’t play until the semifinals two days later.
Tippecanoe Valley also has hosting duties, in Class 3A, where the Vikings will be joined by Wawasee and four other schools.
Whitko and Manchester are both in the seven-team 2A Bluffton Sectional.
In Class 1A, Triton’s part of a six-team event at Oregon-Davis, while Lakeland Christian Academy heads to a six-teamer at Pioneer.
Sectional champions advance to two-round regionals on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Single-round semistates are Oct. 31, with northern teams assigned to either Huntington North or Frankfort once the pairings are set.
The four state title matches take place Nov. 7 at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena in Muncie.
The IHSAA is only allowing single-session ticket sales this year. Prices are $6 for sectionals, $8 for regionals, $10 for semistates and $12 for the State Finals.
CLASS 4A AT WARSAW
The Warsaw Sectional opens with Elkhart facing Goshen at 6 p.m. a week from Thursday, followed by Concord going against Northridge in the second match.
The Tigers square off in an 11 a.m. semifinal on Oct. 17, against the Elkhart-Goshen survivor, followed by three-time defending sectional champion Penn facing the Concord-Northridge winner.
The title match is that same night at 7 p.m.
The winner advances to the LaPorte Regional.
Warsaw will be seeking its second sectional crown in three years.
CLASS 3A AT VALLEY
The Vikings play the first match in their own sectional when they take on Jimtown at 6 p.m. on Oct. 15. That’s followed by Wawasee facing West Noble at approximately 7:30.
Defending sectional champ NorthWood awaits the Valley-Jimtown survivor in an 11 a.m. semifinal on Oct. 17. The second semi sends Lakeland against the Wawasee-West Noble winner.
The title match is the same evening at 7 p.m., with the champion bound for the Norwell Regional.
Valley continues to seek its first-ever sectional title, while Wawasee’s most recent crown came in 1995.
CLASS 2A AT BLUFFTON
Whitko goes against the host Tigers in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal on Thursday, Oct. 15, followed by Manchester taking on South Adams.
The sectional opens, though, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with Adams Central meeting Fort Wayne Canterbury.
Defending champ Wabash, which received the lone bye in the seven-team sectional, starts the Saturday, Oct. 17, semifinals by facing Tuesday’s winner at 11 a.m.
That’s followed by the survivors of the Thursday matches squaring off.
The championship is at 7 p.m. that same night, with the winner earning a spot in the Elwood Regional.
Whikto (2016) and Manchester (1977) are each looking to double their all-time sectional title counts.
CLASS 1A AT OREGON-DAVIS
Triton begins pursuit of a second straight sectional title and fifth in six years when it takes on LaCrosse in the 6 p.m. (Eastern time) opening matchup on Thursday, Oct. 15.
That’s followed by Culver against the host Bobcats at around 7:45.
The Saturday, Oct. 17, semifinals open at 10:30 a.m. with Argos meeting the Triton-/LaCrosse survivor, followed by West Central against the Culver-OD winner.
The title tilt is slated for 7 p.m. that same night.
The winner heads to the Culver Regional.
CLASS 1A AT PIONEER
Lakeland Christian drew a bye, but could be going in its first match up against the No. 5-ranked host Panthers, who boast the state’s fourth-longest active streak of sectional titles at 14.
Pioneer opens the sectional at 6 p.m on Thursday, Oct. 15, against Southwood, followed by North Miami taking on Caston.
LCA, seeking a first-ever sectional crown, meets the Pioneer-Southwood survivor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, followed by Northfield facing the North Miami-Caston winner.
The championship is at 7 p.m. that same night, with the survivor bound for the Culver Regional.
