Alex Michael Lattimore, 30, of Fort Wayne, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:46 a.m. Sept. 6 and faces charges for possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a Level 4 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor; false informing, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, at 11:10 p.m. Sept. 5 a Pierceton police officer was patrolling in the area of Ryerson Road and Ind. 13 in Pierceton when he observed a vehicle traveling at 68 mph in a 45 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver of the vehicle – later identified to be Lattimore – told the officer he did not have his driver’s license on him but that his name was Christopher Davis.
A female passenger in the front seat told police her name but was acting very nervous, according to the affidavit. The officer asked Lattimore if he had anything illegal in the vehicle and if police could search it. Lattimore allegedly told police there was nothing illegal in the car, but denied access to a search. A K-9 free sniff alerted police to the presence of illegal items in the vehicle, according to court papers.
In the vehicle, officers located a 9mm semi-automatic handgun loaded, with a round in the chamber, sticking out between the passenger seat and the center console, within reach of both Lattimore and the passenger. Police also located a digital scale that tested positive for methamphetamine, four syringes in Lattimore’s left front pocket and a clear baggie that contained numerous smaller zip-top bags. A tourniquet was also located, to which Lattimore admitted to police was for drug use, according to the affidavit.
Lattimore also told police he lied about his identity – after police located his driver’s license in his pocket – because he has active warrants out of Whitley and Allen counties.
When police interviewed the woman, according to court papers, she said that when the traffic stop was initiated, Lattimore pulled the gun from his waistband and told her to take it and take the blame for it because it would only be a misdemeanor for her.
While Lattimore was being booked into KCJ, jail staff located a bag containing methamphetamine on his person weighing 6.9 grams.
His bond was set at $5,250.
